Community Guidelines

Legit is a verified, trust-first marketplace. These Community Guidelines set out what is and isn't allowed on the platform. They apply to everything you post or share — listings, photos, "Looking For" seeks, your profile, and messages to other members. They form part of our Terms of Service and work alongside our Privacy Policy.

Legit is an intermediary that hosts user-generated content. We rely on every member to keep the community safe. Breaking these guidelines can lead to content removal, loss of your Verified status, suspension or permanent removal of your account, and — where content is unlawful — reporting to the relevant law enforcement authorities.

1. Who can use Legit

• You must be 18 years or older.
• You must complete phone verification and identity verification (via LinkedIn) as required. Your identity information must be true and your own.
• One person, one account. Do not create multiple accounts, share accounts, or use another person's identity.
• You are responsible for everything done through your account.

2. What you can list

You may list second-hand goods that you personally own, that are legal to sell in India, and that you describe honestly. Photos must be of the actual item. Every listing is checked before it goes live; misrepresenting an item's identity, condition, age, or ownership is not allowed.

3. Prohibited items

You may not list, offer, or ask for any of the following:

• Illegal drugs and controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, tobacco, cigarettes, e-cigarettes/vapes, and alcohol.
• Weapons — firearms, ammunition, explosives, knives intended as weapons, and other arms or their parts.
• Stolen goods, or any item you do not lawfully own or have the right to sell.
• Counterfeit, replica, or pirated goods, and anything that infringes another party's trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property.
• Prescription medicines, controlled medical devices, supplements, or products making unverified health or medical claims.
• Live animals, wildlife, and animal products (including ivory and endangered species) whose trade is restricted or banned.
• Government-issued IDs and documents, uniforms, or anything used to impersonate an official or authority.
• Adult or sexual products and services — including pornography, sexual services, escort or solicitation of any kind.
• Financial instruments, currency, lottery tickets, and items associated with gambling or unregulated financial schemes.
• Hazardous, recalled, or unsafe items, human remains or bodily fluids, and any item that endangers health or safety.
• Anything that is illegal, restricted, or regulated under any applicable Indian law.

4. Prohibited content and conduct

Regardless of whether a transaction is involved, you must not post, upload, share, or send any content — text, images, or otherwise — that falls into the categories below. This includes profiles, listings, seeks, and private messages.

Sexual and adult content

• No pornography, nudity, sexually explicit or suggestive material, or sexual solicitation.
• No obscene, vulgar, or offensive imagery or language.
• No content that is paedophilic or that sexualises, endangers, or exploits minors in any way.

Hate, harassment, and violence

• No hate speech or content that promotes enmity or discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
• No harassment, bullying, intimidation, stalking, threats, or targeting of any person.
• No content that threatens, glorifies, or incites violence, terrorism, or self-harm, or that threatens the unity, integrity, sovereignty, or security of India or public order.

Fraud, scams, and deception

• No fake, misleading, or bait listings, price manipulation, or misrepresentation of items or yourself.
• No phishing, advance-fee scams, fake payment proofs, or any attempt to deceive or defraud another member.
• No impersonation of another person, business, or Legit itself, and no fake or misleading identity information.

Privacy, IP, and spam

• Do not share, publish, or misuse another person's private or personal information (including phone numbers, addresses, or images) without their consent.
• Do not infringe anyone's intellectual property, and do not use stolen, stock, AI-generated, or manipulated photos to represent an item.
• No spam, mass or repetitive unsolicited messaging, duplicate listings, or off-topic content.
• No malware, harmful code, or attempts to disrupt, probe, or gain unauthorised access to the platform.

Staying on-platform

Keep conversations and dealings within Legit until you meet. Do not pressure others to move off-platform to evade our safety systems, and do not use Legit to circumvent verification or to solicit for other services.

5. Photos, listings, and messaging standards

• Use clear, real photos of the actual item you own. Our AI checks images for authenticity before a listing goes live.
• Describe condition, age, and provenance honestly. Provide the proofs we ask for.
• Be respectful in chat. Your phone number is never shared with other members — please don't share theirs.

6. Meeting safely

Legit connects verified people; it does not handle payments, delivery, or escrow, and is not a party to any transaction between members. When you meet to complete a deal:

• Meet in a public place, ideally during the day, and tell someone where you're going.
• Inspect the item carefully before paying.
• Pay in the way you're comfortable with (for example UPI or cash). You transact at your own discretion and risk.

7. Reporting and enforcement

You can report any listing, seek, message, or member from within the app. Reports are anonymous to the reported party. When we receive a report or otherwise become aware of a violation, we may — depending on severity and repetition — remove content, reduce a listing's visibility, issue a warning, remove the Verified badge, suspend the account, or permanently remove it. Content that is unlawful is actioned expeditiously, and serious or illegal content is reported to the appropriate authorities.

We act on complaints in line with applicable law, including the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Grievances are acknowledged within 24 hours and ordinarily resolved within 15 days; certain categories of unlawful content are removed within the shorter timelines required by law.

8. Appeals

If you believe we've made a mistake, you can appeal an enforcement decision (other than child-safety removals) by contacting our Grievance Officer below within a reasonable time.

10. Changes
